Sugar beet drilling
With spring arriving, the soils warmed up enough to allow us to plant our sugar beet. This is an exciting time of the year for us as it is effectively the second crop of the season that we plant in the field. Following harvest we plant a cover crop, this provides both important organic matter to keep our soils healthy but also a very vital source of food that we are able to feed to our ewes and lambs over the winter. After the sheep have finished grazing the cover crop we cultivate the fields to incorporate the remains of the cover crop and create a nice seedbed to plant the sugar beet seed.
